Hardware or software that records the keystrokes and mouse movements made on a particular computer. Hardware loggers can be placed by dishonest staff or unauthorized visitors. Software loggers can be installed in the same way, or more usually by malicious email or malware. Authorized keyloggers may be used in order to facilitate an audit trail.
