Why did I receive this chargeback?
You were supposed to submit the transaction for authorization, but you didn’t or you didn’t do it within the acceptable time limit.
Time Limit
How long can the issuer wait to file a chargeback?
The maximum amount of time that can pass between the transaction processing date and the dispute processing date is 75 calendar days.

What compelling evidence is needed to respond?
- If you did submit an authorization request, provide documentation that lists the authorization code you received, the amount approved, and the date you requested authorization.
- If the transaction date listed in the clearing record is incorrect, provide documentation that proves authorization was obtained on the correct date.
- If the transaction has special authorization procedures, provide documentation that proves the first authorization request included an estimated amount; the subsequent authorization requests included the incremental amount; the same transaction identifier was used for all requests; the clearing records were submitted within the acceptable time limit; the date the transaction was initiated; the date the transaction was completed; the amount of the approved authorizations; and the codes for the approved authorizations.
- If you have already processed a refund for the transaction in question, provide documentation that proves you have credited the cardholder’s account.
- If the cardholder no longer wishes to dispute the transaction, provide documentation that proves the issue has been resolved.

How can I avoid this chargeback in the future?
- Always send an authorization request before processing a transaction if the amount is above your floor limit.
- If you process transactions with multiple authorizations, make sure you fully understand Visa’s rules and regulations.
