Visa Acquirer Monitoring Program (VAMP)

The Visa Acquirer Monitoring Program (VAMP) is a risk management initiative by Visa aimed at monitoring and managing the compliance of acquiring banks with Visa’s fraud and chargeback thresholds. The program tracks the performance of acquiring institutions to ensure they do not exceed acceptable levels of fraud or chargebacks associated with the merchants they serve. If acquirers and their merchants consistently surpass these thresholds, Visa may require the acquirer to take corrective actions. These include enhanced monitoring, stricter fraud prevention measures, and fines.

Participation in VAMP helps acquirers maintain compliance with Visa’s operational standards and protects the integrity of the payment ecosystem. By monitoring chargebacks and fraud activity, acquirers can identify struggling merchants or problematic practices and take proactive steps to mitigate risks. This program also encourages acquirers to collaborate with their merchants in implementing stronger fraud detection and prevention strategies, helping reduce financial losses and improving overall trust between parties.
